The Origins of the Reel Ninja. 🥷🏽🤳🏽

In business, I’m known as the Reel Ninja but in real life my friends call me Jenn. I’m a creator and strategist based in Dallas that stays ready to hop on a flight at any given moment. Window seat me, please!

I love capturing what’s going on behind the scenes of people in their element. I started out taking BTS footage of one of my previous mentors whenever she would fly out to LA on business trips so she could have content to post. I would be in the background like a fly on the wall with my phone out and ready while she did her thing. It was fun for me and she loved the content too.

I didn’t consider myself to be a creative person back then which is crazy to think about now. Lol. I was working in the entertainment industry at a company called Casting Networks, which helped train my eye to catch interesting perspectives that I hadn't seen before. During my time there, I learned A LOT but one of the major things I learned is how a great headshot could get you in the door for an audition.

I was the point of contact for one of the top commercial agents in LA who ended up showing me the game. He had previously worked in advertising and understood how a simple crop could make a headshot more appealing and stand out to casting directors who were scrolling through thousands of headshots a day. Just think about how we scroll through a thousand pieces of content on these apps on a daily basis. Your content needs to stand out to differentiate yourself from the rest.

Fast forward through life life-ing, that passion was revived again after coming back to the states from a month-long business trip to Nigeria. I was out there teaching social media and content creation at Del-York Creative Academy when I was reminded just how much I loved taking BTS footage of people doing what they do. After hearing positive feedback from different people while I was out there, including someone who works at Paramount Studios, I was like yo...maybe I need to take this seriously. A few weeks later, my friend gave me the opportunity to shoot some BTS of an event she was hosting in Atlanta which was a huge deal to me. I felt so alive capturing every moment and the feedback I got from everyone afterwards was all the confirmation I needed. The Reel Ninja was born.
